An Alternative Method To Create A Website
Thursday, 07 June 2007
Content Management System. CMS for short. That's the new buzzword that is being pimped all over the internet right now by all the major Internet Marketer 'Gurus'. Hands up anyone whose mailbox are bombed with affiliate-ids-infested emails from them promoting the CMSInfusion . (No affiliate id here.)

They're giving away bonuses like crazy to entice buyers to bite the bait. The price is rather hefty at $997 a pop. If you are a veteran in Internet Marketing and have been earning money, that's chump-change for you. However, for those who are still green and wet-behind-the-ears on this Internet or Affiliate Marketing, don't fret. There is an alternative.

CMS is not a revolutionary product that has been conjured by your favourite Internet Marketer Guru. In fact, CMS has been around for many years. They are so many out there on the internet, both commercial or open source like Mambo or PHP-Nuke. My favorite is Joomla! CMS and it's FREE.

"Joomla! is one of the most powerful
Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet.
It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites
to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install,
                                                            simple to manage, and reliable."

Don't take the above word for it. Check it out for yourself here . Joomla is designed BY the community FOR the community. It's a great alternative to the $997 package that the 'Gurus' are promoting. You will learn a lot about website design and creation by doing it yourself instead of going for the next magic formula.

So if you want to get your hands dirty on website creation without learning the technicalities of HTML and PHP programming, then CMS is the one for you. One of the greatest strength of CMS is the ability to modularise your website. In Joomla!, it is known as extensions . (The Snap Preview is one example of an extension.)

Extensions are pieces of code that are designed to do a specific task. For example, there are extensions for Internet Marketers like Google Adsense or Amazon product placements. So, no need to re-invent the wheel and bust your head programming. You can pick up good PHP programming techniques just by exploring the codes. There're outstanding PHP coders out there.

There are over 1600 extensions and still growing right now. All you have to do is pick and choose which one you like. You just have to upload the extension that you need, publish it and it's good to go. You can practically have a complex website done without lifting a single finger of coding. (Well, almost.)

On a side note, this website that you are viewing right now is designed using Joomla! CMS. As the website name suggests, I will include whatever CMS adventures I have encountered here. Enjoy!
